It will run through Oct. 2, 2010. This is the first time in London that two productions of the same musical are playing in the same city, and is being staged as part of the celebration of the show's 25th anniversary. (It originally opened at the Barbican Oct. 8, 1985).

The new production, which premiered in Cardiff in December 2009, has gone on to break box-office records in Manchester, Norwich and Birmingham. Future dates in Edinburgh, Paris, Bristol, Salford and Southampton are also almost sold-out prior to this celebratory season at the Barbican in September.

The production has new direction by Laurence Connor and James Powell and spectacular new designs, inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, by Matt Kinley. Original costumes are by Andreane Neofitou, additional costumes are by Christine Rowland, lighting is by Paule Constable and sound is by Mick Potter.

The production stars John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean (he has previously played the role in the West End), Earl Carpenter as Javert and Gareth Gates as Marius. A live cast recording of this production is due for release after Easter.
