Tony winner Lillias White will be lifting her prodigious voice at Avery Fisher Hall, alongside the Morgan Stage University Choir and conductor Marin Alsop, in a gospel "Messiah." Dubbed "Too Hot To Handel," the concert fuses jazz, rock, gospel and R&B. White, currently on Broadway in The Life sings soprano, alongside Vivian Cherry (mezzo) and Thomas Young (tenor). White's other credits include How To Succeed In Business (raising the roof on the "Brotherhood Of Man" number), Once On This Island and Dreamgirls. Tenor Young originated the role of Elijah Muhammed in the opera X.
Former music director of the Long Island Philharmonic, Alsop won the Koussevitzy Conducting Prize at Tanglewood in 1989. Alsop conducts the Concordia Orchestra in the concert; Nathan Carter conducts the Morgan State University Choir.
