Media reports to the contrary, actor Javier Muñoz says he has not signed to replace Lin-Manuel Miranda in the title role of the Broadway musical Hamilton, and there are no announced plans for Miranda to leave the show at this time.
The website Heatstreet posted an “exclusive“ saying Miranda is departing this summer and Muñoz, who plays Alexander Hamilton one matinee a week, will be taking over the part. The piece was picked up by various other media.
While that may yet happen, Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller released a statement saying, “We have nothing to report about our actors' contracts. When we have news, we will report it.”
Muñoz tweeted that he has not received an offer to take over the role full-time.
(1/2) While I am grateful for the support and positive reactions, do not believe everything read. I have received no offer.— Javier Muñoz (@JMunozActor) May 8, 2016
Hamilton was recently nominated for a record-breaking 16 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.
