News Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Special Guest at Amber Charter School's Willy Wonka Production March 23 Tony and Grammy Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was seen last month in the Encores! production of Merrily We Roll Along, is the special guest at the 12th anniversary champagne reception for Amber Charter School March 23 at El Museo Del Barrio.

The event, set to begin at 5:30 PM, will honor Amber's work in providing educational opportunity to low-income elementary school students from Harlem and the Bronx. Following the reception, students will present a special production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in El Museo's newly renovated Black Box Theater. "I am truly in awe of Amber's success in creating an academically rigorous and nurturing environment for some of our city's neediest young students," said In the Heights creator Miranda in a statement. "I am particularly inspired by the central role that arts programming plays in the school's curriculum. I feel privileged to be part of this anniversary celebration and am thrilled to see the students' wonderful theatrical production."

Amber Charter School, founded in 2000, was the first Latino-led charter school in New York State. Amber, which serves 435 students from kindergarten through 5th grade, is based on E. 106th Street in the heart of East Harlem and serves an overwhelmingly low-income student body from Harlem and the Bronx.

El Museo Del Barrio is located at 1230 5th Avenue.
