Classic Arts News   Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra Announces 2004-05 Tour Dates

The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (LCJO) will play 29 dates across the United States and Canada this season, Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) announced last week.

The LCJO and artistic director and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis will play a series of dates in the Midwest this month, starting with a gala performance at Chicago Symphony Hall on Friday, September 10, that features the Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn arrangement of Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite. In January and February 2005, the group travels to the western U.S. and Canada, playing in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, among other cities.

The LCJO, founded in 1988 as the resident orchestra of JALC, performs standards, commissioned works, and originals by Marsalis and other band members at its home base in New York City and around the world. In October, the ensemble plays for the first time at JALC's new home, Rose Hall.
