Rebecca Taichman, who also directed Ruhl's Stage Kiss at Playwrights Horizons, as well as Dead Man's Cell Phone and The Clean House, will stage the production that begins previews Oct. 16 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. An official opening has been set for Nov. 10.

Casting and an on-sale ticket date will be announced at a later date.

Here is how the play is billed: "In The Oldest Boy, Tenzin, the toddler son of an American woman and a Tibetan man, is recognized as the reincarnation of a high Buddhist teacher. Differing cultures contend with competing ideas of faith and love when two monks seek permission to take Tenzin to a monastery in India to begin his training as a spiritual master. His parents must decide whether to send their young son away or keep him home."

The Oldest Boy will have sets by Mimi Lien, costumes by Anita Yavich, lighting by Japhy Weideman and sound by Darron L. West.

Ruhl's plays also include In The Next Room, or the vibrator play; Passion Play, a cycle; Melancholy Play; Orlando; Dear Elizabeth; and Late: a cowboy song.
