News Link and Janzen to Star in Holland's Tarzan The lead roles in the Holland production of Disney's Tarzan have been cast.

The musical — a co-production between Disney Theatrical Productions and Stage Entertainment — will open April 15 at the Circustheatre near Amsterdam. Heading the cast of the Dutch-language production will be 27-year-old Ron Link from Nijmegen in the title role with 27-year-old Chantal Janzen from Tegelen as Jane.

Actor Link won the role on the reality television program "Wie Wordt Tarzan," which asks, "Who is going to be Tarzan?" Over one million viewers cast their votes during the live television program.

In a statement Disney Theatrical Productions' Thomas Schumacher said, "Casting for our premiere international production of Tarzan was not an easy task. The candidates went through a rigorous audition process, and were all incredibly talented actors. We are excited to begin rehearsals and entertain Dutch audiences with our new show."

Tarzan — directed by Bob Crowley — continues to play on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it opened May, 10, 2006. The musical features a score by Phil Collins. Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang wrote the musical's book based on both the Disney film and the original Edgar Rice Burroughs story "Tarzan of the Apes." The creative team also includes Meryl Tankard (choreography), Pichón Baldinu (aerial design), Natasha Katz (lighting design), John Shivers (sound design), Paul Bogaev (music producer/vocal arrangements) and Doug Besterman (orchestrations).

Tarzan, according to press notes, begins as "a shipwreck leaves an infant orphaned on the West African shore. The helpless baby is taken under the protection of a gorilla tribe and becomes part of their family. When he eventually encounters his first human — Jane Porter, a curious young explorer — both their worlds are transformed forever."
