To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tony-winning Best Musical The Lion King, Snapchat has made the Lion King Lens available to Snapchatters in select countries worldwide.
Beginning at 3 AM ET November 13, Snapchatters will be able to virtually “try on” the iconic masks of Simba and Nala, recreated from Julie Taymor’s original Tony Award-winning design through Augmented Reality technology.
Every Snapchat user in the U.S., U.K., Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Belgium, and Norway will have access to Broadway’s first-ever Snapchat Lens in the Lens carousel.
Directed by Julie Taymor—who became the first woman to ever receive a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical—The Lion King has become an international hit with productions playing all around the globe. In fact, the Elton John-Tim Rice musical has won six Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical; eight Drama Desk Awards; six Outer Critics Circle Awards; two Sir Laurence Oliviers; the Evening Standard Award for Best Theatrical Event; and three Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards. The musical currently plays Broadway's Minskoff Theatre.
