Following a world-premiere engagement with WP Theater last fall, Lisa Lampanelli’s new comedy Stuffed is set to return Off-Broadway in a new production at the Westside Theatre. Lampanelli, who starred in the original production, will return to the play, with additional casting to be announced at a later date.
Jackson Gay also returns to direct the fall engagement, which is scheduled to begin previews October 6. Lampanelli is currently reworking the play, which explores the complexity of women’s relationships to food and body image. Additional material has been contributed by Ashley Austin Morris.
“I can’t wait to get this play back in front of audiences,” said Lampanelli. “I learned so much from our first New York production and I couldn’t wait to jump back into the script and continue working on it. Now, of course, there’s no shortage of jokes in Stuffed, but it’s also a real play featuring women talking about a subject that’s close to my heart—our relationships with food, weight, and body image. I’m so glad to have the opportunity to do a new, improved version of the show in order to keep the dialogue going about one of the most common issues people struggle with, while still keeping the laughs flowing.”
The play’s characters are a bulimic, a compulsive eater, a confident overweight woman, and a chronically thin one. They were played Off-Broadway last fall by Avenue Q star Ann Harada, Eclipsed star Zainab Jah, and Jessica Luck. Flip through photos from the world premiere below:
