In September, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and National Book Award-winning singer-songwriter Patti Smith performed Patti Smith: Words and Music at The Minetta Lane. The special live show, in which Smith was joined onstage by her children Jesse and Jackson, wove original spoken-word stories from Smith's life and songs from her catalog.
Sold-out performances of Words and Music ran September 22–24 as part of Audible's season of programming in the Greenwich Village theatre. Audible was on hand to capture live audio over the three evenings that will be released as an audio production November 2.
In the excerpt below, hear Smith perform “Peacable Kingdom” and "People Have the Power,” a song she co-wrote with her late husband, Fred Sonic Smith, while pregnant with one of their children. Following the song, Smith talks about the personal moment that inspired the track.
The audio release of Patti Smith at The Minetta Lane: Words and Music is part of Audible's Originals Member Benefit. On the first Friday of every month, Audible members get two Audible Originals for free out of a collection of six titles that will be refreshed monthly.
