Lithgow will again play Sunday and Monday nights at the Off-Broadway venue beginning April 12. The 14-performance run will continue through May 25. Lithgow had played a limited run at the Newhouse — directed by Jack O'Brien — in April 2008. (The Newhouse is currently the home of the new musical Happiness.) Stories By Heart, according to press notes, is a "touching and funny meditation on the art and essence of storytelling. Invoking memories of his grandmother and father before him, Lithgow traces his own history as an actor and storyteller, a history spanning three generations."

Lithgow will perform two different evenings in repertory: the P. G. Wodehouse story Uncle Fred Flits By (Lithgow's "forty-minute comic monologue, spouting Wodehouse's dazzling language – portraying nine distinct, outrageous characters with zany abandon") and the Ring Lardner story Haircut (about "a barber, while giving a haircut to a stranger in town, catches the newcomer up on recent events in the community, and in doing so tells a comical but ultimately dark and suspenseful tale").

John Lithgow's recent Broadway credits include All My Sons and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. His other recent theatrical credits include A.R. Gurney's political comedy Mrs. Farnsworth and The Retreat From Moscow. Lithgow won Tony Awards for his work in The Changing Room and Sweet Smell of Success and received Tony nominations for Scoundrels, Requiem for a Heavyweight and M. Butterfly. He was also seen in the "Dreamgirls" film as a 1970s Hollywood producer.
