News Little Egypt Musical Debut with TV Stars Extends in L.A. To July 9 The world premiere of the musical Little Egypt starring television stars French Stewart and Sara Rue extends its run at Los Angeles' Matrix Theatre through July 9.

Lisa James (Bold Girls) directs the debut staging of the musical penned by Lynn Siefert (based on her play) with music and lyrics by Gregg Lee Henry. Robert Martin is musical director. The show began April 20 and opened May 6 for a run originally slated through June 11 at the West Hollywood stage.

Stewart and Rue are joined in the cast by John Apicella, Misty Cotton, Gregg Henry and Jenny O'Hara to tell the "strange and comic love story [that] unfolds in the ragged edges of a small mid-western town where a mall security guard and a brainy, misfit young woman meet," according to show materials. "Their lives are complicated by her mother and her sister and their respective love interests."

Stewart — known to television audiences for his work on "Third Rock From the Sun" — has appeared on stage in original productions of Zombie Attack, Party Mix, Teen Girl, Happy Time X-Mas, Intervention and Pot Mom. Other credits include "Seinfeld," "The Larry Sanders Show," "Ally McBeal," "News Radio" and earned an Emmy nomination for his voice work on "Hercules."

Rue — the leading lady of ABC's "Less Than Perfect" — made her acting debut at age nine in the film, "Rocket Gibralter." She has had many regular television roles in series such as "Grand," "Phenom," "Minor Adjustments," "Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane" and "Popular." The actress made her L.A. theatrical debut at the Matrix in Wendy MacLeod's play, The Water Children, also directed by Lisa James.

The design team features James Carhart (set), J. Kent Inasy (lighting), Vicki Sanchez (costume) and Brian Mohr (sound). John Lathan provides vocal arrangements. Corey Womack serves as stage manager. Joe Stern produces for the Matrix Theatre Company with associate producer Drew Brody.
