News Little Miss Sunshine Released for Live Performance Licensing The William Finn-James Lapine musical based on the 2006 road-trip comedy film is available from Music Theatre International.

Little Miss Sunshine, the musical adaptation of the 2006 film of the same title, is now available for amateur and professional licensing from Music Theatre International.

Written by William Finn and James Lapine, the musical had its Off-Broadway premiere at Second Stage Theatre in 2013.

Here’s how it’s billed: “The Hoover family has seen better days. Richard, the father, is a floundering motivational speaker, Grandpa's been kicked out of his retirement home, and Uncle Frank's been dumped by his boyfriend. Moody teenager Dwayne has taken a vow of silence and overextended mom Sheryl can do little more than slap on a smile. But when the youngest Hoover… energetic Olive, enters a regional children's beauty pageant, the family thinks their luck could change and embarks on a cross-country trek chasing the coveted title of Little Miss Sunshine.”

Lapine directed the premiere that featured Stephanie J. Block, Will Swenson, Rory O’Malley and newcomer Hanna Rose Nordberg.
