Fenley's company, celebrating its 30th anniversary this season, premieres Calculus and Politics, a dance for three women, three men, six stuffed swans and a skipping rope, set to music by Harry Partch, on December 11. The Joyce Theater commissioned the work as part of its 25th Anniversary Commissioning Initiative.
Programmed alongside Calculus, in its first New York performance, is Dreaming Awake; Glass will play his original compositions for Dreaming Awake and another MFD work, Provenance, on December 11 only.
The rest of Molissa Fenley and Dancers' season at The Joyce includes Unknown (with music by Glass); State of Darkness (Stravinsky), a solo performed by Pacific Northwest Ballet guests Jonathan Porretta and Rachel Foster; and Lava Field.

The Las Vegas-born Fenley grew up in Nigeria and Spain, and formed her company in 1977. Several of her early works were premiered at The Joyce, including Esperanto (1985) and Separate Voices (1987), Channel (1993), Sightings (1993), Nullarbor (1993), Tilliboyo / Escalay (1993), Sita (1995) and Trace (1997).
In addition to The Joyce, she has been commissioned by the American Dance Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival, Dance Theater Workshop, Dia Art Foundation and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival (Cenotaph, for which she received a Bessie Award for choreography in 1985).
Fenley's works of note over the last decade include On The Other Ocean (1997), Delta (2000) and Patterns and Expectations (2005). She is on the faculty of Mills College's dance department.
