News Living Theatre Raises Funds to Keep Downtown Home The Living Theatre, the downtown experimental theatre company founded in 1947, which was in danger of closing its doors due to financial constraints, has raised the necessary funds to continue its programming.

Less than two weeks ago, the 65-year-old theatre company founded by Judith Malina and Julian Beck faced eviction from its home at 21 Clinton Street unless it could come up with over $24,000 to cover back rent and bring on a consultant to help the organization devise a sustainable plan for future programming.

Through fundraising efforts at LuckyAnt.com, the Living Theatre was able to achieve its $24,000 goal. A consultant will be enlisted to aid in future planning.

The Living Theatre recently presented the premiere of Leah Bachar and Meredith Edwards' Degeneration X. Two encore productions will be offered May 24 and 25.

Further programming has not been announced.
