Liz Callaway

Broadway and cabaret powerhouses Liz Callaway and Karen Mason will seek to spotlight lyricist Hal David June 12 when they join frequent David interpreter Dionne Warwick and David’s widow Eunice David for Magic Moments: An Evening Remembering Hal David at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Eunice David will host their performances of David’s songs and will share stories about his music, his career, his family, and the rest of his life. Television and radio host A. J. Hammer will moderate. Mrs. David will sell copies of her recent memoir, Hal David: His Magic Moments: There Is Always Something There to Remind Me, after the performance.

David did most of his work for the pop market, but he and composer Burt Bacharach made a major foray onto Broadway with the score to the 1968 musical Promises, Promises, and into Hollywood with the score to the 1973 movie musical Lost Horizon. David’s lyrics were heard throughout the 2002 musical revue, The Look of Love, which co-starred Callaway. The Grammy- and Academy Award-winning lyricist (1921-2012) served as president of ASCAP’s Board of Directors, chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was a winner of the Gershwin Prize, bestowed by President Barack Obama.

The concert begins at 8:30 PM. Tickets, at $32, can be ordered at 92y.org/Event/Remembering-Hal-David.
