Gossip columnist Liz Smith took part in the first starry dinner party that will be aired during the premiere episode of "Liza and David," the new reality series for VH1 TV.
In her Oct. 23 column, Smith writes, "I loved my dinner with Sandra Bernhard, Isaac Mizrahi, Lynn Wyatt, Cynthia McFadden and Dominick Dunne. We dished up a storm — What does Liza see in Mr. Gest? . . . How will the Edmund Safra murder trial in Monaco turn out? . . . Can we visit Lynn in her South of France villa this summer? . . . What is grist for Mr. Dunne's column in Vanity Fair?" Smith also reveals that Liza performed in a "loving manner" with recording star Ray Charles.
Liza Minnelli, an Oscar winner for her performance in Cabaret, was last on Broadway in a tribute to her late father entitled Minnelli on Minnelli, which she then took on a tour that was cut short due to poor health. Her marriage to David Gest earlier this year has reinvigorated both the star and her career. In addition to her Tonys for Flora, the Red Menace and The Act, Minnelli was awarded a special Tony in 1974 for "adding lustre to the Broadway season." Her film credits include "The Sterile Cuckoo," "Arthur," "New York, New York" and "Stepping Out." The singer is also a Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress, who will release her newest album, "Liza's Back!" on Oct. 29.
"Liza and David" premieres on VH1 on Dec. 1. Check local listings.
