Lloyd Webber Introduces New Tell Me On a Sunday; Recording to Follow

News   Lloyd Webber Introduces New Tell Me On a Sunday; Recording to Follow At a press launch at the Century Club, Shaftesbury Avenue, Bill Kenwright introduced Andrew Lloyd Webber, who spoke about his new version of Tell Me On a Sunday, and in turn introduced Denise Van Outen, the star of the show.

Tell Me On A Sunday is to open at the Gielgud Theatre on April 15, following previews April 4. The show, which describes the romantic ups and downs of an English girl in New York, will run for a strictly limited 12 week season. The press launch saw Van Outen sing several songs — including the title one — from the musical. Pretty, blonde and demonstrating not only an attractive voice but remarkable acting ability, Van Outen proved why Lloyd Webber approached her — after hearing her sing one of his songs at a Royal Variety performance — to star in a revival of this one-woman show. Marti Webb starred in the original London production, which joined Lloyd Webber's "Variations" to form Song & Dance. Bernadette Peters played the role on Broadway.

Tell Me On a Sunday has been expanded for the twenty-first century and includes five new numbers by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Don Black, with additional contributions from Jackie Clune. There will be an album of the show released on Polydor/Really Useful Records.

Bookings for Tell Me On a Sunday open Feb. 11.
