Adventure in Motion Pictures' world premiere production of Matthew Bourne's Cinderellla, currently playing at London's Piccadilly Theatre, has posted early closing notices for 10 January 1998 - the production had been booking to 14 February 1998.
AMP's previous West End production, Swan Lake, enjoyed a 21-week run between September 1996 and February 1997 at the Piccadilly Theatre making it the longest running full length ballet in a legit West End theatre. It had been hoped that their latest ballet, which reunited the creative team behind Swan Lake, would also enjoy similiar success.
When Cinderella opened on 7 October 1997, the International Herald Tribune called it 'a work of considerable genius' and the Sunday Times described it as 'a theatrical spectacle' while the Observer hailed it as 'dazzling...startlingly original...a triumphant success'. But interestingly the Daily Mail commented that Cinderella was 'not as ground-breaking as [Matthew Bourne's] Swan Lake' and the Independent highlighted that this 'Cinderella is neither as dramatic nor as funny as most of [Bourne's] earlier work and lacks the poetic force of his record-breaking Swan Lake.'
It's expected that the Piccadilly Theatre will go dark as, so far, no other production has been announced for the theatre.
