America has Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS; London has CrusAID, a national charity to fight the disease. To benefit CrusAID, veteran Broadway star John Raitt will offer a concert, Oct. 12, at the Prince Of Wales Theatre.
Not only will he sing songs from Broadway shows in which he starred (Carousel, Oklahoma!, The Pajama Game), he'll be joined onstage by his daughter, pop singer Bonnie Raitt. Also lending a hand on several numbers will be Kim Criswell (Annie Get Your Gun) and Helen Hobson (Heathcliff).
According to co-producer Nick van Hoogstraten, Raitt's performance when he took over as Curley in Oklahoma! convinced Rodgers & Hammerstein to choose him as Billy Bigelow in Carousel. Other Raitt shows included 1966's A Joyful Noise and 1977's A Musical Jubilee.
Tunes in the UK concert will also come from such shows as Camelot, Zorba and Man Of La Mancha. For tickets (10-50 pounds) call 011-44-171-420-0000.
