News   London's Almeida Adds Guirgis' Judas and Ibsen's Rosmersholm to 2008 Season

London's Almeida Theatre has announced that its 2008 season will include the European premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot and a revival of Ibsen's Rosmersholm.

As previously reported, the season will kick off with a revival of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming on Feb. 7, 2008, following previews that begin Jan. 21.

The new production will be directed by Almeida's artistic director Michael Attenborough. The cast will include Kenneth Cranham (Gaslight, The U.N. Inspector); Neil Dudgeon (Pinter's Ashes to Ashes and Mountain Language at the Royal Court); Jenny Jules (who recently appeared in Attenborough's Almeida production of The Big White Fog); Nigel Lindsay (Awake and Sing!, also at the Almeida) and Anthony O'Donnell (King of Hearts).

The season continues with the European premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, which opens on April 3, following previews that begin March 28. The collaboration between Headlong Theatre (formerly the Oxford Stage Company) and the Almeida will be directed by Rupert Goold, who helmed the current, acclaimed Chichester production of Macbeth starring Patrick Stewart.

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot received its world premiere at New York's Public Theater in 2005 in a production directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The Almeida's spring offering is Michael Poulton's new translation of Ibsen's Rosmersholm with Paul Hilton as Rosmer, Helen McCory playing Rebecca West and Malcolm Sinclair as Kroll. Anthony Page's production opens on May 22, following previews that begin May 15. The Almeida has also announced casting for Moira Buffini's adaptation of Catherine Storr's 1958 children's novel Marianne Dreams.

Billed as the Almeida's first family show, Marianne Dreams begins previews on Dec. 14 and officially opens on Dec. 19.

The cast features Mark Arends (The U.N. Inspector), Selina Chilton (The Drowsy Chaperone), Siubhan Harrison (We Will Rock You), Jack James (The Wonderful World of Dissocia) and Sarah Malin (Penelopiad). At certain performances the role of Marianne will be played by Sarah Boulton (The Rocky Horror Show).
