Matt Wolf's book on Sam Mendes, "Sam Mendes at the Donmar: Stepping Into Freedom," will be launched at the Donmar Warehouse on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 PM.

Published by Nick Hern Books on Nov. 14, "Sam Mendes at the Donmar: Stepping Into Freedom" tells the story of the theatre's ten star-studded years from the perspective of Sam Mendes, who has given his complete cooperation to the project.

The book describes the many shows staged there, the directors and writers who worked on them and the actors who starred in them, but also examines the the rare failures. With over 50 photos integrated into the text, complete cast lists of all 80 shows and interviews with more than 60 people — including Stephen Sondheim, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stephen Dillane, Alan Cumming, Helen Mirren and Colin Firth — this is a candid and informed account of the decade in which Mendes took the Donmar from struggling fringe venue to high-octane showcase for international acting talent.

Author Matt Wolf is London correspondent for Variety and writes regularly on theatre for several other newspapers, including The Times. His first book was "The Guys and Dolls Book," also published by Nick Hern Books.

Tickets for the launch are available, at £3.00 each, from the Donmar box office: 020 7369 1732.
