News London's Fortune Theatre Bought by Ambassador Theatre Group

The expected purchase of the Fortune Theatre by the Ambassador Theatre Group, which already owns the Duke of York's, Piccadilly, Phoenix, New Ambassadors and Comedy Theatres, will further strengthen their position as a major player in the West End.

The Fortune has been the home of The Woman in Black for a decade: the two-hander ghost story, adapted from Susan Hill's novel, has proved a money-spinning chiller. The purchase by ATG will lead to a change of ownership and management, but whether it will also result in a change of programming - at a time when a number of shows (including Buddy at the nearby Strand Theatre) have announced their future closure - remains to be seen.
