London's Funny Man Eddie Izzard will make his U.S. debut at P.S. 122 in New York starting September 25 for a limited engagement.

His popularity in the United Kingdom has Garnered him with such praises as "simply the funniest man in Britain" (Sunday Express) ,"Izzard the Wizard" (Today) and "A comic emperor" (The Observer). He has received much raves for his two extended sold-out West End shows, Unrepeatable and Definite Article, a 1993 Olivier Award nomination as well as being selected the 1993 showcase artist at the Montreal "Just for Laughs" Festival.

Besides his comical world, Izzard made his dramatic debut in the West End's world premier of David Mamet's The Cryptogram and appeared thereafter in 900 Oneonta. He will also be featured in the upcoming Bob Hoskins/Gerard Depardieu film The Secret Agent.

Izzard, who is a known transvestite, has been quoted as saying "Actually, I don't consider myself TV and I don't wear 'women's clothes'. I just wear dresses, make-up, whatever. It's pointless calling myself transvestite 'cos that means cross-dresser and I'm simply wearing what I want to wear."

Following his successful record breaking show, Definite Article, at the Shaftesury Theatre in winter of '95, Izzard chose to do a four month world tour of the show to promote the release of his video of the same name. His New York Engagement will preview September 25-28 and open September 29-October 20 at the intimate Performance Space (150 First Avenue).
