News London's New Fantasticks to Shutter June 26 The original Off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks may have set a record for longest-running musical of all time during its 42-year run, but the new West End production is set to make records in the wrong direction: The musical will shutter June 26, just two-and-a-half weeks after opening at the Duchess Theatre, making it one of the shortest West End runs in recent memory.

The production was originally booking through Sept. 5, after opening officially June 9, following previews from May 24.

The production is directed and choreographed by Amon Miyamoto (who has previously fulfilled the same duties on Sondheim's Pacific Overtures at Broadway's Studio 54). The cast features up-and-coming actors Lorna Want and Luke Brady as the young lovers, joined by David Burt and Clive Rowe in the roles of the two fathers, as well as Tony Award nominee Edward Petherbridge and Paul Hunter in the roles of Henry and his sidekick Mortimer. The character of El Gallo, around whom much of the twists and turns of the plot revolve, is played by Hadley Fraser. The role of the mute is played by Carl Au.
