London's Old Vic To Create Studio Space

News   London's Old Vic To Create Studio Space

According to industry paper The Stage, the Old Vic is to create a temporary studio space — not unlike the one built in the National Theatre by Trevor Nunn earlier this year.

Elton John will perform at a fundraising gala, at a date to be arranged, to help finance the cost of the project, which is estimated between £250,000 and £300,000.

The creation of studio spaces seems to be a trend in 2002, whether in major subsidized theatre — the National — or the larger fringe: the Pleasance. Although expensive, it gives scope for a wider range of plays at each venue, and is also helpful in workshopping new work.
