News London's Wicked Will Welcome a New Wizard This Summer The London production of Wicked, now in its sixth year at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, is to welcome a new Wizard of Oz. Keith Bartlett will begin performances July 30, taking over from Desmond Barrit who plays his final performance July 7. In the intervening period, July 9-28, Christopher Howell will play the role.

Bartlett, who is best known of his classical work, makes his West End musical debut in Wicked, though he has previously played the role of John the Baptist in Schwartz's Godspell in Basingstoke in 1998. He has appeared with the RSC in Henry VI Parts 1, 2 & 3 and Richard III, presented as part of "The Histories" season at Stratford-upon-Avon and The Roundhouse, The Winter's Tale, The Tempest and Pericles. Other theatre credits include Romeo and Juliet (Headlong); King James Bible recital and A New World: A Life of Thomas Paine (both Shakespeare's Globe); A Lie of the Mind, The Front Page and Glengarry Glen Ross (all Donmar Warehouse); Mary Stuart, The Crucible, Piano and Murmuring Judges (all National Theatre), and Macbeth, Philoctetes, Twelfth Night, The Tempest and The Cid (all Cheek by Jowl).
