New Haven’s Long Wharf Theatre has teamed up with advocacy organization Sandy Hook Promise to offer a series of conversations and programs in connection with the theatre’s upcoming production of Office Hour by Julia Cho. The play, which recently ran Off-Broadway, examines issues of gun violence.

Office Hour, directed by Lisa Peterson, will run January 17–February 11, 2018, on Stage II at the Long Wharf Theatre.

Sandy Hook Promise was founded by several Newtown community members, including Mark Barden and Nicole Hockley, two parents who each lost children in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. The mission of the organization is to prevent gun violence by educating and mobilizing youth and adults on mental health and wellness programs that identify, intervene, and help at-risk individuals.

Set in a college, Cho’s Office Hour is about a troubled and misunderstood student.

“When [Community Engagement Manager at Long Wharf] Elizabeth Nearing reached out to us about partnering on this event, we were instantly interested, not only because of the strong connection that the play has to our mission and violence prevention programs but also because of how deeply the staff cares about and invests in the safety and care of the New Haven community," Barden said.

The cast of Office Hour at Long Wharf is made up of Daniel Chung, Jackie Chung, Jeremy Kahn, and Kerry Warren.

The creative team includes Matt Saunders (set design), Maggie Morgan (costume design), Scott Zielinski (lighting design), and Rob Kaplowitz (original music and sound design). The stage manager is Chris Waters with casting by Calleri Casting.
