Chicago's most famous contribution to versifying, the fabled "Poetry Slam," has over the years been expanded to include playwriting as well. As such, Victory Gardens Theater will hold its third annual "Playslam" May 14, 6:30 PM (CST), wherein several Chicago-based dramatists get to read their own works -- and brook applause, fingersnaps or catcalls from the audience. James Sherman, author of Beau Jest and Jest a Second, shares the roster with Lonnie Carter (The Sovereign State of Boogedy Boogedy), Claudia Allen (Winter due at VG this summer; Hannah Free) and Kristine Thatcher.
For reservations and information on "Playslam III" at Victory Gardens, 2257 North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago, call (773) 871-3000.
