The crazies may not have left Los Angeles, but Loonacy! is ending. The world premiere of Kieran Angelini's play finishes its run in West Hollywood Nov. 19. TV's Robert Costanzo and Ken Lerner star.
Character actor Costanzo is recognizable for his turns in "Honeymoon in Vegas," "Total Recall," "NYPD Blue" (where he played Dennis Franz' arch enemy Mafia capo, Alfonse Giardella), and the television's animated "Batman" (Detective Bullock) and "Hercules" (Philoctetes). His most recent stage credit was as Marcus Hoff in The Big Knife. Lerner has appeared in 39 movies and many TV programs, including "The Story of Us," "Godzilla," "Chicago Hope," "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Happy Days."
In Loonacy!, Rudy Keck and Sy Delp have retreated to a cabin in the country where they'll write the biography of their recently-deceased mentor, E. Paul Banks. Unfortunately, neither has any ability to write, and neither can agree on the details of Banks’ life. Rudy fights for control, Sy gets depressed, and both have way too much access to a shotgun.
Angelini wrote the Drama-Logue winners At the Mat and Anteroom. He is currently at work on a new work, Drinking in Church.
Anthony Caldarella directs. The former artistic director of New York City's Washington Market Playhouse, he has helmed A View From the Bridge (with Burt Young), Detective Story (Drama-Logue winner), Small Craft Warnings and The Hostage. Performances began Oct. 13. Tickets are $15. The Lee Strasberg Creative Center is located at 7936 Santa Monica Boulevard. For reservations, call (323) 650-7777.
