Following an extended run at the Beckett Theatre, the Epic Theatre Center production of No Child . . . began its open-ended run at its new Off-Broadway home July 8, 2006, with an official opening July 16. With direction by Hal Brooks, the creative team also featured Narelle Sissons (set design), Mark Barton (lighting design), Jessica Gaffney (costume design) and Ron Russell (sound design). Following its New York City run, No Child — performed by Sun and directed by Brooks — will play engagements throughout the country, including stops in Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C. Additional bookings are also expected on the West Coast during the 2007-2008 season.
No Child, according to press notes, "is an unflinching look into the New York City Public Education system. . . . [Sun transforms herself] into the teachers, students, parents, administrators, janitors, and security guards who inhabit our public schools every day and are shaping the future of America."
The play recently won the 2007 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show.
