Pitre first took the lead role of Donna in Mamma Mia! in Toronto before leaving that company in November 2000 to head up the North American touring company. A Dora Mavor Moore Award winner for both Piaf and Blood Brothers, her 20 years of credits include musical theatre stints with Les Miserables, Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd and Cabaret.

Mamma Mia! runs at Los Angeles' Shubert Theatre through April 22 (although an extension is likely; the San Francisco and Chicago engagements extended). The rest of the tour follows:

May 18-July 7: Chicago's Shubert Theatre
July 2001: Washington DC
Sept. 2001: Boston, MA

Mamma Mia! is due on Broadway Oct. 18, 2001, where the musical will run at the newly-renovated Winter Garden Theatre. Using Swedish super group ABBA's greatest hits set against an original story about a young girl searching for her father on the eve of her wedding, Mamma Mia! features the 70's staples "Dancing Queen," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "S.O.S.," "Take a Chance on Me" and "The Winner Takes It All."
