News Love and Boston Marriage: Mamet Play Begins Perfs. Jan. 31 at Guthrie Sally Wingert, Nadia Bowers and Summer Hagen co-star in the Guthrie Theater's mounting of David Mamet's Boston Marriage, which begins performances Jan. 31.

Directed by Douglas Mercer, Mamet's comedy of manners will play the Guthrie Lab through Feb. 22. The official opening night is scheduled for Feb. 4. Set in the drawing room of a nineteenth-century Boston home, Boston Marriage concerns three women, Anna, Claire and Catherine. According to production notes, "Anna and Claire are two bantering, scheming ladies of fashion who have long lived together on the fringes of upper-class society. Anna has just become the mistress of a wealthy man, from whom she has received an enormous emerald and an income to match. Claire, meanwhile, is infatuated with a respectable young lady and wants to enlist the jealous Anna's help for an assignation. As the two women exchange barbs and take turns taunting Catherine, Anna's hapless parlor maid, Claire's young inamorata suddenly appears, setting off a crisis that puts the valuable emerald at risk and threatens the women's future." Kate Burton, Martha Plimpton and Arden Myrin co-starred in the play's Off-Broadway mounting.

Sally Wingert has appeared in the Guthrie productions of Pride and Prejudice, Top Girls and Six Degrees of Separation. Nadia Bowers was seen in the Guthrie's Blood Wedding, Circle in the Square's Metamorphoses, the Public Theater's Julius Caesar and La Jolla Playhouse's Tartuffe. Summer Hagen's Guthrie credits include The Night of the Iguana, Pride and Prejudice, Amadeus and A Christmas Carol.

The Guthrie Lab is located at 700 N. 1st Street in Minneapolis, MN. Tickets, priced $22-$30, are available by calling (612) 377-2224. For more information, visit www.guthrietheater.org.
