The original show plays the tiny resident theatre in Astoria Queens, across the East River from Manhattan. Scannell penned booked and lyrics, Elliot Finkel is the composer. "Love Jokes is the story of one woman seeking the ultimate answer to the perennial question, 'is there a perfect relationship that will last forever?'" according to the announcement. Through stand-up comedy and upbeat songs, "the audience discovers that indeed there is an answer."

Direction is by Walter Jalbert and Jacqui Young and musical arrangements are by Elliot Finkel.

Scannell appeared in featured starring roles on "Dynasty," "Ryan's Hope," "Search for Tomorrow," "Remington Steele," "The A-Team" and many TV shows, and performed in New York cabarets.

Scannell, founder in 2001 of the Astoria Performing Arts Center, which now produces five mainstage shows a year, has worked mostly behind the scenes until now. "It's so much work putting a company like this together," she said in production notes. "I really missed performing but you can't do it all. Now, with so much support from the community, and members of the company, things are in place and I can get back on stage."

Love Jokes plays Nov. 14-23. The Astoria Performing Arts Center Theatre is located at The Presbyterian Church of Astoria at 31-30 33rd Street (between 31st Avenue and Broadway) in the heart of Astoria and Long Island City.

Tickets are $15 and $12 (for seniors and students).
