The Off-Off-Broadway performance space Dixon Place seems to have no trouble corralling famous theatre names for its periodic, high-profile stage readings. The script this time around is the screenplay of the famous Billy Wilder film Some Like It Hot, which starred Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Starring in the July 15 reading will be playwright Craig Lucas, Ridiculous Theatre head Everett Quinton, and performance artists Holly Hughes, Peggy Shaw, Deb Margolin and John Kelly. The production promises live music from the Circus Amok Band and five separate Sugar Kanes (Monroe's character): Kelly, Maggie Moore, Brenda Bergman, Lois Weaver and Carmelita Tropicana. Also in the cast are four of the Five Lesbian Brothers, Moe Angelos, Peg Healey, Lisa Kron, and Dominique Dibbel. Dibbel and Angelos will step into the Lemmon and Curtis roles, which means they'll be women playing men who are playing women.
For an evening of mind-boggling subtext, call (212) 219-3088. Some Like it Hot be performed at 7:30 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4Th St.). Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door.
