News Lucas' Singing Forest, Sam Waterson in Travesties and Jazzy Guys and Dolls Set for Long Wharf Long Wharf Theatre has finalized its lineup for its upcoming 40th anniversary season, which will include Guys and Dolls, A Moon for the Misbegotten, The Mystery of Irma Vep, a new Craig Lucas play Singing Forest, and Travesties starring Sam Waterson.

An Ethan McSweeney staging of Noah Haidle's Mr. Marmalade (Jan. 26-March 6, 2005) is also under consideration for the New Haven, CT company's Stage II lineup, which will include a productions of Julia Cho's new play BFE as part of the New American Voices Festival (March 16-May 1, 2005).

The season lineup (subject to change) is as follows:

  • Guys and Dolls (Sept. 29-Oct. 31) - Kim Rubinstein will direct a new staging of the Frank Loesser musical about gamblers and lovers featuring an on-stage jazz band. Daniel Pelzig choreographs and Nathan Hurwitz serves as musical director.
  • The Mystery of Irma Vep (Nov. 11-Dec. 12) - Charles Ludlam's comedy — which played at Hartford Stage last season — will venture into New Haven to mark the first collaboration between Connecticut's Long Wharf and Hartford Stage. James Lecesne and Jeffery Roberson (also known as Varla Jean Merman) star as a number of characters in the Michael Wilson staging.

  • Singing Forest (Jan. 5-Feb. 6, 2005) - Bartlett Sher directs the new Craig Lucas work — produced in association with Seattle's Intiman Theatre, where it will make its world premiere — is an epic play, which interweaves the tales of three generations of one family, from New York in 2000 to Vienna in the 1930s and post World War II Paris.
  • A Moon for the Misbegotten (Feb. 23-March 27, 2005) - The Eugene O’Neill classic set in a Connecticut farmhouse in early September 1923, centers around the struggles of the strong, sturdy woman with her ne'er-do-well father and weak-willed, dissolute, would-be beau. Gordon Edelstein directs a cast featuring John Procaccino.
  • Travesties (May 4-June 5, 2005) - Tom Stoppard's Tony Award-winning comedy receives a Gregory Boyd staging starring Sam Waterston. The drama, set in 1974 (and 1917 in flashback) in Zurich, Switzerland, is filled with real-life characters including writer James Joyce, artist Tristan Tzara and revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin) and how their lives intersected with the show's narrator, British consul official Henry Wilfred Carr.
