Entitled Celebrate Sondheim, the Sept. 25 event will be the annual fundraiser for Connecticut's Westport Country Playhouse, where Sondheim interned nearly 60 years ago. According to a press statement, the one-night-only event will boast the talents of Tony Award winners Patti LuPone, Kristin Chenoweth and Barbara Cook as well as current Wedding Singer star Laura Benanti. Additional performers are expected to join the concert as well.

A 6 PM cocktail reception with guest-of-honor Sondheim will begin the evening, following by the 7:30 PM concert and dinner at 9 PM. Tickets are priced $500 (cocktail party and concert) or $1,000 and $2,000 (cocktail party, performance and dinner).

Composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim has written a plethora of critically acclaimed, award-winning musicals, including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods, Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Passion. He also contributed lyrics to West Side Story and Gypsy, and his newest musical, Bounce, played Chicago and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. His revised productions of The Frogs, Pacific Overtures and Assassins were on Broadway stages in 2004, and a revival of Sweeney Todd is currently playing the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Sondheim was also celebrated at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in summer 2002 with all-star stagings of six of his musicals — Company, Sweeney, Merrily, Night Music, Sunday and Passion.
