News Ma Rainey Preview Canceled Jan. 28 Due to Illness The producers of the Broadway revival of August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom canceled the 7 PM Jan. 28 preview performance, due to the hospitalization of one of the show's actors, it was announced.

Carl Gordon, who plays the role of Cutler, was rushed to the emergency room on doctor’s orders after experiencing severe leg pain earlier in the day.

Due to insufficient rehearsal time for Gordon's understudy, Helmar Augustus Cooper, the show's producers opted to cancel the performance. Performances of the drama are scheduled to resume 2 PM Wednesday Jan. 29.

Tickets purchased for the Tuesday Jan. 28 performance at the Royale Theatre may be exchanged or refunded by calling Tele-charge at (212) 239-6200, or in-person at the Royale box office (242 W. 45th St.).
