Co-directed by Branagh and Rob Ashford (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), Macbeth has received positive reviews from the international press.

If Branagh's production were to transfer to Broadway, it would be the third production of the Scottish play to be seen in New York in a short period of time. Alan Cumming's solo interpretation finishes its limited run at the Barrymore Theater July 14, and Lincoln Center Theater's upcoming revival, which stars Ethan Hawke, will open Nov. 21.

Along with the possibility of too many Macbeth's, the question of a venue would also factor into the play's transfer. Branagh's production is performed in a 300-seat deconsecrated church in Manchester, while the average Broadway house seats between 600 and 1900 people.

Reviving plays after a short period of time has been a recent trend on Broadway; the past season saw returns of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Glengarry Glenn Ross and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
