News MacCorkindale Will Be Captain Von Trapp in London's Sound of Music in August Simon MacCorkindale will step into the role of Captain von Trapp in the London Palladium production of The Sound of Music beginning Aug. 25.

MacCorkindale succeeds Simon Burke, who departs the production Aug. 23. The actor will join a cast that currently features Summer Strallen as Maria, Margaret Preece as Mother Abbess, Fiona Sinnott as the Baroness and Paul Grunert as Max. Aug. 25 will also welcome Rebecca Lucie and Nadim Naaman, taking over as Liesl and Rolf, respectively.

MacCorkindale is best known for staring as Harry Harper in "Casualty." His other TV credits include "Obsessive Love," "Falcon Crest" "Quatermass," "Jesus of Nazareth," "Gemini" and "Dynasty." He has starred in the films "Juggernaut," "Death on the Nile" and "The Riddle of the Sands." MacCorkindale has directed a number of theatre productions including The Dark Lady of the Sonnets at the Royal National Theatre and Pygmalion at the Albery Theatre.
