Sandy will play silent film master Mack Sennett in the musical story of Sennett's star-crossed romance with screen star Mabel Normand. The show will run Sept. 13-Oct. 1 at the Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati (ETC), and then travel to the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, CA. The show has been a fan favorite since it debuted on Broadway in 1974 with Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters in the title roles. Though a flop, it has frequently been revived with varying success and is often touted as a possibility for a big Broadway revival. Most recently, British director John Doyle fashioned a London production in which the characters played their own instruments.
Sandy recently starred in the national tour of Best Little Whore House in Texas with Ann Margaret, and appeared Off-Broadway in Lone Star Love.
The ETC season will also include the Michele Lowe play String of Pearls, Oct. 25-Nov. 12; the world premiere of the new musical Ugly Duck by Joseph McDonough and David Kisor (Nov. 29-Dec. 31); Steven Dietz's play Fiction (Jan. 31-Feb. 18, 2007); Opus by Michael Hollinger (March 14-April 1, 2007; and Stephen Temperley's Souvenir (April 25-May 13, 2007).
