The show, which looks at two possible directions a young man's life can take when he's faced with a major moral decision, has been hugely popular with largely young audiences, indicating that Madness's songs — like "Our House" and "Baggy Trousers" — are as effective now as when written some 20 years ago.
The show's success is also due to Tim Firth's book, Matthew Warchus' direction and a young and enthusiastic cast, many of them making their West End debut. The August closure isn't the end of the show, however, as a tour is expected in 2004.
Industry rumor has it that Our House will be replaced by Jerry Springer —The Opera when it transfers into the West End this autumn.
