Some of the top names in showbiz are being floated to appear in the film version of the Broadway musical Chicago.
CNN was reporting that Madonna, star of the current film Evita, has been approached about the role in the film. Miramax has purchased the rights to the 1975 musical, currently being revived with Ann Reinking and Bebe Neuwirth. In a telephone interview with New York radio station 105.1-FM, a voice identified as Madonna reportedly confirmed that she was being sought, and that she was interested.
Other stars reported by CNN as being sought: Goldie Hawn, John Travolta, and Rosie O'Donnell (the latter as Matron "Mama" Morton).
A spokesperson for the Broadway production referred all questions to Miramax. Miramax would confirm only that it had indeed acquired the rights to make a movie of the hit Broadway show.
