News Maggie Smith Vehicle "Lady in the Van" Rolls Out in January; Watch the Trailer "The Lady in the Van," the film adaptation of the West End hit penned by Alan Bennett, will arrive on screens in January 2016. It was originally scheduled to open in December.

The film, which made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September and its U.S. premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival Oct. 9, will have its official opening in limited release throughout the U.S. Jan. 15, 2016.

Oscar winner Maggie Smith reprises her stage role in the Sony Pictures Classics film, which features direction by Nicholas Hytner.

Smith, a Tony winner for her performance in Lettice and Lovage, and currently popular for playing the Dowager Countess in the TV series "Downton Abbey," plays Miss Mary Shepherd, "an eccentric woman of uncertain origins, who 'temporarily' parked her broken-down van in Bennett’s London driveway — and proceeded to live there for the next 15 years," according to a previous description.

The film casts Alex Jennings as playwright Bennett with James Corden, Frances de la Tour, Roger Allam, Dominic Cooper and Jim Broadbent.

Director Hytner produced along with Damian Jones and Kevin Loader. See the newly released official trailer for the film below:
