News Mamma Mia! Celebrates 1,000th Performance March 4 The Broadway production of Mamma Mia! will play its 1,000th performance at the Cadillac Winter Garden Theatre March 4.

The international hit musical — featuring the songs of pop supergroup ABBA — has surpassed the runs of such musicals as Camelot, Oliver!, Barnum, Ragtime, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar and City of Angels. Mamma Mia! began previews at the Winter Garden Oct. 5, 2001, with an official opening on Oct. 18, 2001. The production opened with an advance sale of $27 million; to date the musical has grossed over $144 million. Dee Hoty currently heads the Broadway cast as Donna Sheridan with Jenny Fellner as Sophie, Joe Machota as Sky, Harriett D. Foy as Rosie, Tamara Bernier as Tanya, John Hillner as Sam, Adam LeFevre as Bill, Michael Winther as Harry, Keisha T. Fraser as Lisa, Rebecca Kasper as Ali, Jason Weston as Pepper and Michael Benjamin Washington as Eddie. Mamma Mia! features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast.
