News Mamma Mia! Turns Three Oct. 18; New Cast Arrives Oct. 20 The hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! celebrates its third anniversary on Broadway Oct. 18. The musical — featuring the songs of the pop group ABBA — originally opened at the Winter Garden Theatre Oct. 18, 2001.

On Oct. 20, the musical will welcome a mostly new company headed by Carolee Carmello as Donna Sheridan, Liz McCartney as Rosie and Judy McLane as Tanya. The powerhouse threesome will be joined by Sara Kramer (Sophie Sheridan), Aaron Staton (Sky), Daniel McDonald (Sam Carmichael), David Beach (Harry Bright), Mark L. Montgomery (Bill Austin) and Ben Gettinger (Pepper). The company also features Keisha T. Fraser (Lisa), Rebecca Kasper (Ali) and Albert Guerzon (Eddie).

In related Mamma Mia! news: The German production of the musical — in Hamburg — celebrates its second birthday Nov. 3, while the Dutch company — in Utrecht — turns one Nov. 9. The first Spanish-language production of the ABBA musical begins previews Oct. 30 prior to an official opening at Madrid's Lope De Vega Theatre Nov. 11. And, "Supertroupers: 30 Years of ABBA" — featuring rare ABBA clips and Mamma Mia! London production footage — will be released in the U.S. in early 2005; the DVD is already available in the U.K. and Ireland.

Mamma Mia! features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast.
