Mandy Gonzalez, currently co-starring as Angelica Schuyler in Broadway’s Hamilton, heads to Philadelphia to help the Philly POPS orchestra welcome Independence Day at Independence Hall with a free concert 7 PM July 3, followed by another free concert and fireworks 7 PM July 4 on Independence Mall.

On July 3 Gonzalez, who created the role of Nina Rosario in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 2008 musical In the Heights, will appear in the POPS on Independence for Wawa Welcome America concert performing patriotic numbers “America the Beautiful,” “Immigrants Anthem,” and local favorite “Philadelphia Freedom.” She will be accompanied by the 65-piece POPS in the concert, under the baton of Michael Krajewski. Other guest singers include Tony DeSare and the choir Voices of the Pops.

On July 4, Gonzalez will appear with the Philly POPS Big Band at the 10 AM POPS at the Celebration of Freedom Ceremony at Independence Hall, honoring native sons Boyz II Men. The ceremony will kick off a patriotic parade from Independence Mall to Penn’s Landing. Gonzalez and the orchestra will open the POPS on the Parkway for Wawa Welcome America concert on Benjamin Franklin Parkway starting at 7 PM, which will include a performance by Mary J. Blige and a 9:30 PM fireworks display.

Highlights of the July 4 evening show will include “This Land is Your Land,” featuring Gonzalez; “Vivir Mi Vida,” featuring Gonzalez and American Idol contestant Luis Figueroa; and “Uptown Funk,” featuring Gonzalez and DeSare.
