News Manhattan Madcaps of 1924 Begins Symphony Space Run July 6 Manhattan Madcaps of 1924, which launches Symphony Space's "Summer Stock on Broadway" series, begins performances July 6.

Madcaps, a new production that boasts songs from 17 Rodgers and Hart scores, features direction by Annette Jolles with choreography by Regina Larkin and musical arrangements by Lanny Meyers. The musical will play the Leonard Nimoy Thalia through July 23 with an official opening scheduled for July 13.

The cast comprises Katie Allen as Gracie, Ivy Austin as Jeanette, Christine Bokhour as Cassie, Sidney J. Burgoyne as Stonewall, Michael Simon Hall as Johnny, Howard Kay as Casey, Staci Rudnitsky as Mamie and Nick Verina as Gary.

The creative team also includes Ryan Scott (set design), Brian Aldous (lighting design) and Madeline Cohen (costume design).

"Boy meets Girl. Boys loses Girl," reads production notes for Manhattan Madcaps, "[and] Boy gets Girl and a Manhattan apartment in this romantic romp through the Big Apple, as four couples seek happiness (and a place to live) in the Big City of 1924." Among the Rodgers and Hart songs that will be featured in the production are "City," "Gotta Get Back to New York," "Where the Hudson River Flows," "Way Out West," "Any Old Place with You," "At the Roxy Music Hall," "He Was Too Good to Me," "Give it Back to the Indians" and "Manhattan."

About the new series, Symphony Space Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer said in a previous statement, "New York City is the culture capital of the country, but up until now, a theatre-lover had to travel outside of the Big Apple to find a real, 'let's-put-on-a-show' summer stock production. 'Summer Stock on Broadway' will capture the best of summer stock, right here in New York, New York — and on Broadway to boot." Manhattan Madcaps of 1924 plays Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. (There is no performance July 12.)
