The third annual marathon reading of "The Best American Short Plays" is being held on Mondays in March at Applause Books' flagship shop at 211 W. 71st Street in Manhattan.

Paul O'Brien and Dan Desmond from the Michael Blakemore cast of Death Defying Acts will read that show's curtain-raiser, An Interview by David Mamet, March 11. That show's Act II, Elaine May's Hot Line, is set for March 25. Lynn Cohen will direct a reading of Steve Martin's recent Public offering, WASP, on March 18.

Christopher Durang's A Stye of the Eye and Doug Wright's Lot 13: The Bone Violin will be featured on the same program.

Tony winner Eli Wallach toplines the final night's offering April 1, reading Murray Schisgal's The Artist and the Model. Brian Mertes will direct Matthew Coles and Judi Long in Jacquelyn Reigngold's Dear Kenneth Blake that night.

"The Best American Short Plays: 1994-1995," edited by Howard Stein and Glenn Young," is being published in March by Applause ($15.95 trade paperback).
