Classic Arts News Marc-Andr_ Hamelin Wins Artist Prize From German Record Critics The Association of German Record Critics (der deutschen Schallplattenkritik e.V.) has announced that Canadian pianist Marc-Andr_ Hamelin is the winner of one of its three Honorary Prizes for 2006.
The announcement of the prizes for Hamelin, jazz keyboard player Joe Zawinul (founder of the band Weather Report) and record producer Harald Quendler was made on Wednesday (August 30), according to the German website klassik.com. The awards will be presented in November at the Berlin Museum of Musical Instruments.

Established in 1963, the Preise der deutschen Schallplattenkritik are voted on each year by more than 100 German-language critics. The ten recipients of the association's record prizes for 2006 will be announced in late October.
